More Box stories

Wherever you walk in this garden; always new clipped boxes emerge. And each one has his own story and pet name.

A nurseryman fron Boscoop (The Netherlands) wanted to get rid of a lot of shrubs
for reasons of commercial reorganization.

For Frida a nod being as good as a wink. She hired a lorry and after several transports, today the "Boscoops" are an eye catching box island.

Two rather tall Box shrubs, never been trained and leaning on a henhouse, had to be removed.

Now they make a kind of passage between two "Box islands" in Frida's garden.

We don’t know the name of this variety. The young leaves are of a bright grass-green and smooth yellowish. That’s why Frida christened them her “Golden Gate”.

Here and there, you can admire rather tall boxes. Those are the so called "bell-ringers".

All these plants have grown in the garden of two pious sisters, who for years ringed the bells of the village church.

The bell-ringers are in pleasant company with "Astrid" and
"Blanche".

Catho, the centenarian

Catho has been named after the late lady, owner of the abandoned garden in which this lonely hundred-year-old tree was found. After more than a year of difficult negotiation, Frida managed to buy the centenarian.

The digging up, removal and transport of the tree were one of the most delicate operations ever done by the Van Glabbeek family.

Catho, today

Today Catho is still fully alive.

This old box is the only never clipped, natural box tree in this garden. Frida is visiting, talking and looking after Catho’s health and contentment every day.

Ten years after the transplantation, Catho is happily in good company of several quince trees near the beech hedge in the front garden.

Moreover, there is also the beautiful, classical decor of twice four Box formations, grouped box squares of two levels, embracing a central playful dome-shaped top.

Two elegant vases complete the special ambiance of this front garden.

It is obvious, this is a residence of topiary-lovers.
